Heather Youngs

  • Heather Youngs is a Senior Fellow at the Energy Biosciences Institute at UC Berkeley. Heather received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Oregon Graduate Institute (now part of Oregon Health & Sciences University). She was an NIH post-doctoral fellow at the Carnegie Institution for Plant Biology at Stanford and an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Michigan Technological University. She has worked for over 15 years on the synthesis and degradation of biomass. At the EBI Heather synthesizes information across the entire bioenergy knowledge space, providing expert analysis to guide the EBI research portfolio and inform policy makers. She has served on the California’s Energy Future Committee and is the executive editor of Bioenergy Connection.
