Joaquim Bento

  • Has a degree in Agronomy, MSc in Agricultural Economics and PhD in Economics at University of São Paulo, Brazil. Presently is a Professor at Department of  Economics in the Escola Superior de Agricultura “Luiz de Queiroz”, University of Sao Paulo, at Piracicaba, SP, Brazil. Has also a post-doctoral stage at Centre of Policy Studies – COPS, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. Former president of the Brazilian Society of Agricultural Economics (SOBER).   Former director of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics – CEPEA. Has been publishing in the field of agricultural economics, agricultural policy, and social impacts of biofuels expansion in Brazil. Teaches microeconomics and applied general equilibrium models at graduate level at ESALQ/USP. Reviewer of many professional scientific journals in Brazil, and member of the editorial board of the Economia Agrícola journal; and the Revista Brasileira de Economia, Administração e Sociologia Rural. Contributor to the Global Trade Analysis Project database. Consultant for many institutions in Brazil and abroad, like EMBRAPA, IPEA, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank – IDB and the Economic Commission for Latin America – ECLAC.
