Bret Strogen

  • Bret Strogen, AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Operational Energy Plans and Programs (OEPP), and Researcher/Visiting Scholar, University of California at Berkeley

     

    Bret completed his PhD in 2012 at UC Berkeley in Environmental Engineering under the supervision of Professor Arpad Horvath. He has been a researcher at UC Berkeley’s Energy Biosciences Institute (EBI) since 2008 – as a graduate student, postdoc, and currently holds a visiting scholar appointment in Professor David Zilberman’s group. His research interests include evaluating fuel and environmental policies, estimating life-cycle greenhouse gas and criteria air pollutant emissions from feedstock and fuel distribution systems, and identifying opportunities to reduce costs, emissions, and health impacts through policy alternatives and new infrastructure projects.

     

    Bret is currently serving as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow on the Innovation Team within the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Office of Operational Energy Plans and Programs. He primarily supports DoD leadership as an advisor on alternative fuels research, development, testing and evaluation investments, and by reviewing federal and departmental policies and initiatives related to fuel procurement and management.
